Payments Setup

Ordery uses Stripe to process customer payments securely. This guide explains how to connect Stripe, monitor payment status, and troubleshoot common issues.

What is Stripe?

Stripe is a payment processing platform that lets you accept card payments online.

Benefits:

  • Secure payment processing
  • Supports all major credit and debit cards
  • Fast payouts to your bank account
  • Built-in fraud protection

How it works:

  1. You connect your Stripe account to Ordery
  2. Customers pay by card at checkout
  3. Stripe processes the payment
  4. Funds are transferred to your bank account according to your payout schedule

Connecting Stripe

Before you can accept orders, you must connect a Stripe account.

How to Connect Stripe

  1. Go to Payments in your admin panel
  2. Click Connect with Stripe
  3. You'll be redirected to Stripe's website
  4. Create a new Stripe account or log in to an existing one
  5. Provide your business details:
    • Business name and address
    • Bank account details
    • Business type (sole trader, limited company, etc.)
    • Tax ID or VAT number (if applicable)
  6. Complete any verification steps Stripe requires
  7. You'll be redirected back to Ordery

What happens next: Your Stripe account is connected. You can now accept card payments.

āš ļø Warning: Your storefront won't accept orders until Stripe is fully connected and verified.

Stripe Verification

Stripe may require additional information or documents to verify your account.

Common Verification Requirements

Business verification:

  • Proof of address (utility bill, bank statement)
  • Business registration documents (if limited company)
  • Identification (passport, driver's licence)

Bank verification:

  • Confirm bank account ownership
  • Provide bank statements

Why Stripe verifies accounts: To comply with financial regulations and prevent fraud. This protects you and your customers.

How long it takes: Most verifications complete within 24–48 hours. Complex cases may take longer.

šŸ’” Tip: Respond quickly to Stripe's verification requests to avoid delays in accepting orders.

Payment Capability Status

Stripe tracks your account's capability to accept payments.

Capability Statuses

Active: Your account is fully verified and can accept payments.

Pending: Stripe is reviewing your information. You may be able to accept payments with some restrictions.

Restricted: Additional verification is required. Payments may be paused.

Inactive: Your account cannot accept payments. Resolve outstanding requirements immediately.

Viewing Your Capability Status

  1. Go to Payments in your admin panel
  2. View the Capability Status section
  3. See which capabilities are active, pending, or restricted
  4. Follow any prompts to resolve issues

How it affects your storefront: If payments are restricted or inactive, your storefront displays a "Temporarily Unavailable" message.

Due Soon Requirements

Stripe may request additional information periodically to maintain compliance.

What are due soon requirements? Items Stripe needs from you to keep your account in good standing (e.g., updated bank details, annual verification).

How to view them:

  1. Go to Payments in your admin panel
  2. Check the Due Soon Requirements section
  3. Click to review and complete each requirement

šŸ’” Tip: Address due soon requirements promptly to avoid account restrictions.

Payout Schedule

Stripe transfers funds to your bank account according to a payout schedule.

Default Payout Schedule

Standard schedule:

  • Daily payouts — Funds transfer every business day
  • Delay: 2 business days after the transaction (rolling basis)

Example: An order placed on Monday is paid out on Wednesday.

Viewing Your Payout Schedule

  1. Go to Payments in your admin panel
  2. View the Payout Schedule section
  3. See your current cadence and next payout date

Changing Your Payout Schedule

Payout schedules are managed through Stripe.

How to change:

  1. Log in to your Stripe dashboard
  2. Go to Balance → Payouts
  3. Adjust the schedule (daily, weekly, monthly)

ā„¹ļø Note: Some accounts may have weekly or monthly payouts initially. Stripe adjusts this based on account history and risk.

Bank Account Details

Stripe sends payouts to your registered bank account.

Viewing Bank Account Details

  1. Go to Payments in your admin panel
  2. View the Bank Account section
  3. See the last 4 digits of your account number and bank name

Updating Bank Account Details

Bank account changes are made through Stripe.

How to update:

  1. Log in to your Stripe dashboard
  2. Go to Settings → Bank Accounts
  3. Add or update your bank account details
  4. Stripe may require verification (e.g., micro-deposits)

āš ļø Warning: Ensure your bank account details are correct. Incorrect details can delay or prevent payouts.

Stripe Fees

Stripe charges a fee for each transaction.

Standard UK rates (as of 2024):

  • Card payments: 1.5% + 20p per transaction
  • Refunds: Fees are refunded for full refunds; prorated for partial refunds

Where fees are deducted: Stripe deducts fees from each transaction before transferring funds to your bank account.

Example:

  • Order total: Ā£30
  • Stripe fee: Ā£0.65 (1.5% + 20p)
  • You receive: Ā£29.35

ā„¹ļø Note: Fees vary by card type and country. Check your Stripe dashboard for exact rates.

Monitoring Payments

Track payments and payouts through your Stripe dashboard.

Stripe Dashboard

What you can see:

  • All transactions and payouts
  • Detailed payment breakdowns
  • Refund history
  • Dispute and chargeback information
  • Fee summaries

How to access: Log in to dashboard.stripe.com using your Stripe credentials.

šŸ’” Tip: Reconcile your Stripe payouts with your order history regularly to ensure everything matches.
